📋 The Yellow Edged Moray Eel, also known as the Yellow-Margin, Yellowmargin, Leopard, or Speckled Moray Eel, has a genuinely dark brown-to-black body densely mottled with yellow speckling, with its namesake yellow-green margin running along the posterior edges of its fins, and a black blotch marking the gill opening. As juveniles, individuals are genuinely primarily brown-to-purple with a yellow-edged fin border, gradually becoming more mottled with an attractive creamy yellow-gold colouration as they mature.
Native to a genuinely vast range across the Indo-Pacific, from South Africa to the Red Sea, eastward to the Tuamotu and Austral Islands, and north to the Ryukyu and Hawaiian Islands, this species inhabits coral reefs and rocky crevices.
We want to share a genuinely fascinating fact: this species is one of the few natural predators of lionfish in the Red Sea, and can genuinely form a symbiotic relationship with cleaner shrimp. This species is genuinely most active at night, spending most of the day hidden, and emerging after dark in search of food. We want to be upfront: this species is considered reef safe with caution, but will genuinely threaten smaller fish and invertebrates, and new specimens can genuinely take up to a week to begin feeding — live fish or shrimp may help entice a reluctant eater.
