We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. This species is genuinely one of the most notorious escape artists in the entire marine hobby — it can lift lids and glass covers, and will exploit even the smallest gap around cords or filters to escape the tank. A weighted or locking lid is genuinely essential, not optional. This species also genuinely grows quite large, reaching up to 100cm in the wild, though aquarium specimens typically stay smaller, and requires a minimum tank size of 50-75 gallons.
 
📋 The Snowflake Moray Eel, also known as the Snowflake Eel, Clouded Moray, or Starry Eel, has a genuinely striking white body covered in an intricate pattern of black-and-yellow markings resembling scattered snowflakes.
Native to a genuinely vast range across the Indo-Pacific and into the Eastern Central Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa to Baja California, this species inhabits coral and rocky reefs, intertidal flats, and shallow lagoons to depths of 48 metres.
We want to share a genuinely fascinating fact: like all moray eels, this species is practically blind, navigating and hunting almost entirely by smell — the characteristic mouth-gaping behaviour isn't aggression, but the eel pumping water over its scent organs. This is genuinely one of the most popular and beginner-friendly morays in the hobby, being smaller and more manageable than most other species, and genuinely one of the few morays commonly active during the day. We want to be honest that it's genuinely reef safe with corals, but not with crustaceans — ornamental shrimp and small crabs will eventually be found and eaten. Please always use feeding tongs, never your hand, as this species has a genuinely painful bite.
