📋 The Jeweled Moray Eel, also known as the Jewel Moray, has a dark purple-brown body covered in contrasting white-to-yellow spots, often outlined in darker borders, which gives it its "jewelled" look. Juveniles are brown with gold spots and darken into the richer adult colouring as they grow.
It's native to the Eastern Pacific, from the Gulf of California to Peru and the Galápagos, which makes it a true outlier from our usual Indo-Pacific stock. It's also one of the smaller morays, typically about 35cm and reaching up to 61cm, so it doesn't need the vast space larger eels demand. Every Jeweled Moray Eel we ship is feeding well, and it's a hardy, popular species that adapts readily to aquarium life and learns to feed by day.
It's a nocturnal ambush predator and not reef safe: it will eat any fish, crustacean, or even another eel it can swallow, so it's best kept singly. Feed it with tongs, fit a heavy, gap-free lid, and secure all rockwork firmly, and it will reward you with a character-filled, long-lived showpiece.
