📋 The Bristletooth Tomini Tang , also known as the Tomini Surgeonfish or Flame Fin Tang, undergoes a genuine colour transformation as it matures — juveniles show a tan body with yellow, blue, and white highlights, while adults develop a darker, more solidified body colour, a genuinely blue-tinted tail, and golden-orange edging along the dorsal and anal fins.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, from the Great Barrier Reef to Indonesia and the Tonga Islands, this species belongs to the genus Ctenochaetus, whose name genuinely combines the Greek for "comb" and "bristle," referencing its specialised, comb-like teeth used to scrape algae and organic material from rock surfaces.
This is genuinely one of the more popular tangs in the hobby, largely thanks to its relatively small adult size and hardiness. It's a genuinely voracious scavenger, constantly grazing on algae and detritus throughout the day, and is fully reef safe. We want to be honest: it can genuinely be a little feisty toward fish introduced after it, though this settles with time, and it should ideally be one of the last fish added to a new tank.
