📋 We want to be genuinely upfront on naming: this species is genuinely also sold as the Redtail Triggerfish, White Tail Triggerfish, or Blue-Throat Triggerfish, and it's easy to confuse with our Sargassum Triggerfish (Xanthichthys ringens) — this species is genuinely distinguished by black lines criss-crossing along the body in a distinctive "crosshatch" pattern, with males displaying a more intense yellow background and a red-rimmed tail, versus the greyer, yellow-fringed females.
 
📋 The Crosshatch Triggerfish has a genuinely eye-catching straw-yellow-to-slate-grey body outlined in black scales, with blue radiating lines across the face.
Native to the tropical and subtropical Eastern and Western Pacific, this species genuinely occurs mostly around smaller isolated oceanic islands, and is found in large schools in open water, usually at depths of 27 metres or greater, feeding almost exclusively on passing zooplankton — a genuine factor in its relative rarity and higher cost in the aquarium trade.
