📋 We want to be genuinely upfront on naming: this species is also commonly sold as the Red Tail Triggerfish, though we want to note that this same common name is sometimes also applied to a different species, the Crosshatch Triggerfish (Xanthichthys mento).
 
📋 The Sargassum Triggerfish has a genuinely elegant tan-to-powder-blue body with dark speckling, three stacked purple-to-blue stripes across the gill area, and a bright red-to-maroon trim outlining its caudal fin.
Native to the tropical reefs of the Western Atlantic and Caribbean Sea, adults genuinely inhabit seaward reef slopes usually below 30 metres, while juveniles are found living among floating sargassum seaweed, from which the species gets its name.
This is genuinely one of the least aggressive triggerfish species in the hobby, and a real standout for reef aquariums given that sessile invertebrates are typically ignored. We want to be honest that larger specimens may still eat ornamental shrimp, small fish, and other crustaceans, so this species is best suited to spacious, fish-focused reef setups without valuable invertebrates. It's genuinely shy when first introduced but soon gains confidence, and we want to share a genuinely charming documented behaviour: this species may spit water at the surface in anticipation of feeding time. Its eyes genuinely move independently of one another, letting it scan for both predators and prey simultaneously.
