We want to be genuinely direct on this one, because we believe honesty matters more than a sale. This species genuinely grows very large, reaching up to 70cm (around 27"), and is usually sold as a small, striking juvenile that gives little indication of its eventual size. Multiple expert sources genuinely recommend a minimum of 300 to 500 gallons for a full adult, and it grows quickly, reaching a substantial size within just a couple of months. Please only consider this species with a serious, concrete long-term plan for its eventual large size.
 
📋 The Orbiculate Batfish, also known as the Round Batfish, Orbic Platax, or Circular Batfish, undergoes a genuinely dramatic transformation — juveniles have a brown-to-orange body with dark vertical bars and extremely elongated dorsal and anal fins, closely mimicking a floating leaf for genuine natural camouflage among mangrove roots and debris. As the fish matures, this leaf-like silhouette is lost, the fins become proportionally shorter, and the body develops a silvery-grey adult colouration with subtle dark banding.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, this species inhabits lagoons, sheltered bays, and areas around shipwrecks and artificial structures.
This is a genuinely social, hardy, and personable species that adapts well to aquarium life and often becomes one of the most interactive fish in the tank. We want to be honest that it can genuinely be shy for the first few days after introduction, and live saltwater feeder shrimp may be needed to encourage it to start eating. This species is genuinely susceptible to marine ich, and its fins are delicate and easily damaged, so please handle with real care. We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, and will genuinely consume sessile invertebrates including corals and anemones, particularly when hungry.
