We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. This species genuinely grows very large, reaching up to 70cm (around 27"), and expert sources genuinely recommend a minimum aquarium size ranging from 250 up to 350 gallons or more for a fully grown adult, with some sources noting this species is genuinely better suited to public aquariums than the average home setup. Juveniles are usually quite small when purchased, but will genuinely rapidly outgrow a small home aquarium. Please only consider this species with a serious, concrete long-term plan for its truly large eventual size.
 
📋 The Unicorn Tang, also known as the Unicornfish, Unicorn Surgeonfish, or Bluespine Unicorn Tang, has a genuinely striking grey-silver-to-olive-green body with blue accents, most notably its namesake bony horn projecting from the forehead, which genuinely begins developing once the fish reaches around 15cm (6").
Native to a genuinely vast range across the Indo-Pacific, the Red Sea, and East Africa to Hawaii, this species inhabits inshore coral reefs, usually occurring in small groups or pairs.
We want to share a genuinely fascinating fact: despite extensive study, marine biologists genuinely haven't determined the specific function of this species' distinctive horn. This species genuinely possesses two sets of fixed, blue "scalpels" on either side of the caudal peduncle, used for defence, and care should be taken during any transfers, as its horn and spines can genuinely become tangled in netting — a rigid container is recommended instead. This is a genuinely peaceful, hardy species that spends its day grazing rockwork for algae, though it can become aggressive toward other tangs, particularly members of its own Naso genus. It's fully reef safe, and won't harm corals or invertebrates.
