🐠 White Bar Surgeonfish (Acanthurus leucopareius)

Marine Reef-Safe Tang • Dark Brown Body With a Bold White Bar Bordered in Black Across the Gill Cover • Genuinely Rarely Available in the Trade • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The White Bar Surgeonfish, also known as the Whitebar Surgeonfish, Whitebar Tang, or Whitethroated Surgeonfish, has a genuinely dark brown body marked by a distinctive white bar, broadly bordered in dark brown-to-black, running from the origin of the dorsal fin across the gill cover.

Native to the Western Central Pacific, including Hawaii, southern Japan, the Mariana Islands, and south to New Caledonia and Easter Island, this species inhabits reef-associated waters at depths from 1 to 85 metres.

We want to be genuinely upfront: like all Acanthurus tangs, this species genuinely grows quite large and can become increasingly aggressive as it matures, so please plan a suitably spacious tank from the outset. We want to share a genuinely interesting fact: this species is rarely available in the aquarium hobby, making it a real find for dedicated tang enthusiasts. It's fully reef safe, and like other tangs, requires a genuinely balanced diet of both algae-based and meaty foods to maintain its health, colouration, and reduce aggression toward tank mates.
