🐟 African Moon Tetra (Bathyaethiops caudomaculatus)
A Deep-Bodied, Golden Characin With a Bold Black Spot at the Tail Base • A True African Tetra, Unlike Most South American Species in This Range • A Calm, Shoaling Species From the Congo Basin
📋 The African Moon Tetra has a relatively deep, gold-toned body, interrupted by a bold, round black spot right at the base of the tail that gives the species its common name.
It comes from the central and lower Congo River drainage of Central Africa, a true African tetra in the family Alestidae, unlike most of the South American species in our Tetra range. Every African Moon Tetra we ship is feeding well.
This is a calm, shoaling species, often found hovering around underwater structures or beneath floating plants in the wild. It does best kept in a proper group, where its natural shoaling behaviour comes through clearly, and settles well into a stable, well-planted community aquarium. It reaches up to 8cm, so a 115L tank suits a group well.
