🐟 Costello Tetra (Hemigrammus hyanuary)
A Clean, Silvery-Iridescent Body With a Subtle, Understated Elegance • Also Known as the January Tetra, Named for Lake Hyanuary in Brazil • An Exceptionally Peaceful Shoaling Species
📋 The Costello Tetra, also known as the January Tetra, has a clean, silvery-iridescent body, a quietly elegant look rather than a bold splash of colour.
It comes from the Amazon Basin in Brazil and Peru, with its scientific name honouring Lake Hyanuary, a floodplain lake near Manaus where the species was first discovered. Every Costello Tetra we ship is feeding well.
This is an exceptionally peaceful shoaling species, an active swimmer that occupies the middle and upper water column. It settles best in a proper group of 6-10 or more, alongside other small, peaceful tankmates, since it can feel intimidated by larger or more boisterous species. It reaches 4-5cm, so a 60L tank suits a school well.
