🐟 Diamond Tetra (Moenkhausia pittieri)
A Genuinely Sparkling, Opalescent Shimmer Across Silvery-Violet Scales • A Distinctive Red Spot Atop the Eye • A Stocky, Laterally Compressed Body Unlike Most Tetras
📋 The Diamond Tetra, also known as Pittier's Tetra, is widely considered one of the most beautiful species in its genus, with a genuinely sparkling, opalescent shimmer of green, gold, and orange across silvery-violet scales, plus a distinctive red spot atop the eye.
It comes from the Lake Valencia basin in Venezuela, naturally inhabiting slow-moving streams and vegetated margins. Every Diamond Tetra we ship is feeding well.
This is a stocky, laterally compressed tetra, a noticeably different build from the typical slender schooling species. Males develop longer dorsal and anal fins as they mature. It's a peaceful, social species that can turn timid without a proper school, and it benefits from a varied diet, an underfed Diamond Tetra may turn to nibbling tank plants. It reaches up to 6cm, so a 100L tank suits a school well.
