🐟 Golden Tetra (Hemigrammus rodwayi)
A Metallic, Shimmering Brass-Gold Body • A Naturally Occurring Sheen, Genetic and Biological, Not Dyed • A Hardy, Adaptable Classic for Any Planted Tank
📋 The Golden Tetra, also known as the Gold Tetra or Brass Tetra, has a full-bodied, metallic sheen in brass-to-gold tones, with a red-topped tail marked by a dark arrowhead spot.
Its shimmering colouration is a natural, biological trait, never dyed or injected. Captive-bred stock, including every Golden Tetra we sell, tends to show a softer brass-silver shimmer rather than the deepest gold occasionally seen in wild-caught fish, a difference rooted in the fish's own biology rather than anything artificial. It comes from the Amazon basin and coastal rivers of Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. Every Golden Tetra we ship is feeding well.
This is a hardy, adaptable schooling species, genuinely easy to keep once established, and its metallic shimmer stands out beautifully against dark substrate and green planting. It does best in a school of 8 or more, alongside other peaceful South American tetras, dwarf cichlids, and corydoras. It reaches 4-5cm, so a 80L tank suits a school well.
