🐟 Head & Taillight Tetra (Hemigrammus ocellifer)
Glowing Copper-Gold Spots at the Head and Tail, Like Tiny Lights • A Bright Red Upper Eye Against a Silvery Body • A Hardy, Adaptable Classic That's Often Overlooked
📋 The Head & Taillight Tetra has a silvery body marked with two glowing copper-gold spots, each bordered with an iridescent pink-gold ring, one at the gill area and one at the base of the tail, resembling a tiny pair of headlights and taillights. A bright red marking tops the upper eye.
It comes from the Amazon and Orinoco river basins in Brazil and Guyana, naturally schooling in slow-moving tributaries. Every Head & Taillight Tetra we ship is feeding well.
This is a hardy, remarkably adaptable species, tolerant of a wide range of water conditions and genuinely easy to care for. It's a classic tetra that's often overlooked in favour of flashier species, despite being just as striking in a proper school. It coexists well with most peaceful community fish, including other tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and small gouramis. It reaches 4-5cm, so a 75L tank suits a school well.
