🐟 Mono Sebae (Monodactylus sebae)

Brackish-to-Marine Schooling Fish • Genuine Three-to-Four Banded African Moony

📋 The Mono Sebae, also called the African Moony, is a bold, triangular-bodied fish with genuinely three to four dark vertical bands running across its silver body — a stronger, more pronounced pattern than the plainer Silver Mono (M. argenteus). It's native to the eastern Atlantic coast of West Africa, from the Canary Islands and Senegal down to Angola, inhabiting mangrove swamps and estuaries.

This species is genuinely euryhaline, meaning it can tolerate the full range from fresh to brackish to marine water, though it genuinely does best staying in brackish to marine conditions long-term — freshwater is tolerated by small juveniles but not recommended indefinitely. It's a genuinely sensitive species during transport and initial acclimation, so settling in gently matters.

Mono Sebae is an obligate schooler, best kept in a group of at least five, with eight or more genuinely recommended for the calmest, most natural behaviour — within tank confines, individuals can genuinely become quarrelsome with each other in too-small a group, and will also eat tank mates small enough to swallow.
