Brackish-to-Marine Schooling Fish • Please Read First — Genuinely Venomous Fin Spines
⚠️ Please Read First
All Scats, including this silver colour form, genuinely have venom glands at the base of their dorsal, anal, and pelvic fin spines. A sting is genuinely described as similar to a bee sting but more potent — not life-threatening, but a real reason to handle this fish carefully during netting, bagging, or tank maintenance.
📋 The Silver Scat is a colour form of the Spotted Scat with a bright silver body marked by dark spots, giving it a striking, almost leopard-like appearance — distinct from the Green and Red Scat forms we also carry, though all three are genuinely the same species. Juveniles tolerate low-end brackish or even freshwater conditions temporarily, but adults genuinely need brackish-to-full-marine salinity for long-term health; kept in freshwater as adults, they grow poorly and develop ongoing health problems.
Scats are genuinely social, active schoolers, best kept in a group of six or more for natural behaviour and to reduce stress-related aggression. They're hardy once properly acclimated and useful algae and detritus grazers in a larger brackish setup.
