We want to be genuinely direct on this one. This species is genuinely considered an expert-only animal in the aquarium trade, requiring a genuinely low-stress environment, an easy-to-consume diet with multivitamin supplementation, and excellent, stable water quality. Despite its genuinely relatively small size and relaxed disposition, a full-sized specimen genuinely requires a dedicated tank of at least 200 gallons. We want to be honest: sharks are a genuine long-term commitment, and we strongly urge anyone considering this species to thoroughly research its needs before purchasing.
📋 The Speckled Carpet Shark, also known as the Speckled Carpetshark or Speckled Epaulette Shark, has a genuinely elongated tan body densely covered in fine, irregular dark spots that form saddle-like bands, with large ocelli (eye-like markings) ringed in white above the pectoral fins, closely resembling its well-known relative, the Epaulette Shark.
Native to northern and western Australia, this species is genuinely found in shallow tropical coral reefs and tide pools, from the intertidal zone down to around 20 metres.
We want to share a genuinely fascinating fact: like the Epaulette Shark, this species uses its paired pectoral and pelvic fins to genuinely "walk" along the substrate in a distinctive wiggling motion, an adaptation that lets it venture into tide pools during low tide to hunt for crustaceans and small animals. This is genuinely a bottom-dwelling, primarily nocturnal species that typically remains stationary under shelter during the day. We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, as its natural hunting behaviour among rocks and crevices makes it a threat to small invertebrates.
