🐠 White Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi)
A Pale, Almost Translucent Body With Long, Flowing Fins • A Naturally Occurring Colour Variety, Not a Dyed Fish • One of the Hardiest Beginner Tetras Available
📋 The White Skirt Tetra is a pale, almost translucent colour variety of the Black Skirt Tetra, with a diamond-shaped body and long, flowing dorsal, anal, and caudal fins that trail behind it like a skirt, giving the species its common name.
This leucistic colouration occurs naturally through selective captive breeding rather than any genetic defect; it's not a dyed or injected fish, a distinction worth knowing since dyed "berry" or "jellybean" tetras are a different, harmful practice we don't support. The original wild-type species comes from the Paraguay River basin in South America, inhabiting slow-moving tributaries and floodplain pools. Every White Skirt Tetra we ship is feeding well.
This is one of the hardiest, most adaptable tetras available, tolerant of a wide range of water parameters and an easy choice for a beginner's first community tank. It can show real fin-nipping tendencies in very small groups, so a proper school of 6-10 or more keeps this behaviour spread out and the fish noticeably calmer overall. Its pale, almost ghostly colouration stands out beautifully against dark substrate or deep green planting. It reaches 5-6cm, so a 75L tank suits a school well.
