🐠 Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor)

Marine Reef-Safe Algae-Grazing Blenny • Two-Tone Colour Display Fish • Active Bottom-Dwelling Species • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Bicolor Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor) is a compact, characterful marine fish prized for its striking two-tone colouration — a dark brown to black front half transitioning into a vivid orange rear half — paired with an expressive face and near-constant perching, darting activity.

Native to shallow reef flats and lagoons across the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa through Southeast Asia to parts of the Pacific islands, Bicolor Blennies are typically found perched on rock and rubble, darting into crevices at the first sign of danger.

Naturally active and food-driven, Bicolor Blennies spend much of their day grazing algae from rock and glass while frequently perching in the open to survey their territory, making them one of the more consistently visible reef fish in a well-decorated tank. They are generally peaceful toward unrelated species but can become territorial toward other blennies of similar shape, and like most blennies they benefit from a tank with some established algae growth alongside supplemental feeding.

With adequate shelter and appropriate tank mates, they thrive as a Distinctive Two-Tone Reef Display Fish.
