📋 The Bundoon Blenny (Meiacanthus bundoon), also known as the Bundoon Fangblenny, displays an emerald-green head fading into a bold orange-to-yellow stripe running along a dark olive-to-black body, with a distinctive forked tail — especially striking in males, which grow longer tail streamers.
Native only to the shallow rocky reefs and drop-offs of Tonga and Fiji in the South Pacific, this species is genuinely uncommon in the trade due to its limited natural range, and is occasionally available as ORA captive-bred stock, which tends to be notably hardier and more disease-resistant than wild-caught specimens.
Like other Meiacanthus fang blennies, this species carries a pair of small, venomous canine teeth used purely for self-defence — if attacked, it will bite the inside of a predator's mouth. For aquarium keepers, this poses essentially no real risk: the venom is mild and defensive only, though caution is still worth taking around children who might handle the fish carelessly. Unlike most blennies, it has a well-developed swim bladder that lets it hover comfortably in open water in a distinctive start-stop swimming motion.
Genuinely peaceful and reef safe, it thrives as a Distinctive Rare Reef Display Fish.
