📋 The Canary Blenny (Meiacanthus oualanensis), also known as the Canary Fang Blenny or Oualan Forktail Blenny, is aptly named — a solid, vibrant yellow body from nose to tail, complemented by an elegant forked tail.
Native to shallow lagoons and reef environments across the Western Pacific, including Fiji, Tonga, and the Solomon Islands, this species spends much of its time hovering in the water column, playing in the current, and hunting for zooplankton.
Like other Meiacanthus fang blennies, this species carries a pair of small, venomous canine teeth used purely for self-defence — its bite isn't dangerous to people but is genuinely painful, often compared to a bee or wasp sting, so hand feeding is strongly discouraged and some caution is worth taking around children. This same defensive trait means larger, more aggressive tank mates tend to leave it alone once they've learned their lesson, making it a genuinely bold, confident fish for a community reef.
