Marine Reef-Safe Open-Water Blenny • Golden-Yellow Body • Genuine Anthias Mimic • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish
📋 The Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas), also known as the Persian or Golden Blenny, is a genuinely striking golden-yellow fish with bright blue eyes and a graceful, elongated body, sometimes showing hints of blue or darker shading.
Native to reefs across the Indo-Pacific, from the Gulf of Aqaba and East Africa to the Marquesas Islands, this species has a genuinely fascinating natural history: unlike most blennies that stay close to the rocks, it swims freely in open water alongside schools of Lyretail Anthias, matching their golden colouration and swimming style so closely that researchers believe it gains real protection from predators simply by blending into the shoal.
This mimicry translates into a genuinely different personality in the aquarium — this species is far more outgoing and visible than most blennies, actively swimming through open water and even displaying real curiosity toward its keeper. It's genuinely reef safe, showing no interest in corals or invertebrates, and can be kept alongside a group of Lyretail Anthias for a particularly striking, cohesive display. It's also a genuinely capable jumper, so a secure lid matters, and it can show rapid, temporary colour changes when stressed — this is completely normal.
