📋 The Midas Blenny, also known as the Persian or Golden Blenny, is a striking golden-yellow fish with bright blue eyes and a graceful, elongated body, sometimes showing hints of blue or darker shading.
It comes from reefs across the Indo-Pacific, from the Gulf of Aqaba and East Africa to the Marquesas Islands. A fascinating natural history: unlike most blennies that stay close to the rocks, it swims freely in open water alongside schools of Lyretail Anthias, matching their golden colouration and swimming style so closely that researchers believe it gains real protection from predators simply by blending into the shoal. This mimicry translates into a different personality in the aquarium; this species is far more outgoing and visible than most blennies, actively swimming through open water and even displaying real curiosity toward its keeper. It's reef safe, showing no interest in corals or invertebrates, and can be kept alongside a group of Lyretail Anthias for a particularly striking, cohesive display. It's also a capable jumper, so a secure lid matters, and it can show rapid, temporary colour changes when stressed, which is completely normal. It reaches up to 13cm, so a 115L tank suits it well.
