🐠 Brazilian Flameback Angelfish (Centropyge aurantonotus)

Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Dwarf Angelfish • Fiery Orange & Blue Nano Display Fish • Genuinely Rare Caribbean Species • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Brazilian Flameback Angelfish (Centropyge aurantonotus), also known as the Caribbean Flameback or Fireball Angelfish, is a vibrant dwarf angelfish with an intense orange-gold dorsal region fading into a deep royal-blue body — a rectangular, squared-off profile that distinguishes it from its close relative, the African Flameback.

Native to the Western Atlantic, from the Caribbean to Brazil, this species is genuinely rarer and more sought-after than its African counterpart, collected far less frequently and commanding a meaningfully higher price as a result.

Bluefin Angelfish are considered reef safe with caution — many specimens leave stony and soft corals largely alone compared to some relatives, but individual behaviour varies, and caution is still genuinely warranted, particularly with clam mantles and polyp corals. Worth knowing before purchase: once settled in, this species can become quite territorial and confident, sometimes acting as a genuine bully toward more docile fish, and in smaller tanks it has been known to seriously harm or kill other pygmy angelfish.

With a spacious nano or medium reef tank and thoughtful stocking, it thrives as a Fiery Rare Nano Reef Centerpiece.
