📋 Potter's Angelfish, also known as the Potter's Pygmy Angelfish or Rusty Angelfish, has a striking appearance: a brilliant orange body marbled with pale-to-dark blue variegated lines, and a dark blue-black streak leading into the tail and rear fins, all trimmed in brilliant blue.
This species is endemic exclusively to Hawaii and the Johnston Atoll, inhabiting coral, rock, and rubble reefs at depths from 5 to over 130 metres, living in pairs or small harems of one male with several females, typically under ledges or on reef slopes with plenty of shelter. In 2021, Hawaii banned commercial aquarium fish collection entirely, so wild specimens can no longer be newly collected, and current availability draws on existing stock alongside a growing captive-breeding effort, which explains both the rarity and pricing of this species. Every Potter's Angelfish we ship is feeding well.
It's not reef safe, and will nip at soft and stony coral polyps, sessile invertebrates, zoanthids, and clam mantles, with individual behaviour varying. It's territorial toward other dwarf angelfish, so it's best as the only dwarf angelfish in the tank unless paired at introduction. It reaches up to 13cm, so plan on at least 265L.
