Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Dwarf Angelfish • Peach-Orange Body With Silvery White Band • Genuine Deep-Water Rarity • Intermediate Marine Fish
📋 The Multicolor Angelfish (Centropyge multicolor), also known as the Pastel Pygmy or Pearlback Angelfish, has a genuinely vivid combination of colours — a pale peach-to-orange body, a blue patch dotted with black speckles just behind the eyes, blue-black dorsal and anal fins, a yellow tail, and a striking silvery-white band running from mid-body toward the caudal fin.
Native to deep outer reef slopes across the Pacific, including the Marshall Islands, this species is genuinely rare in the trade, living cryptically in narrow rocky passageways at depths typically between 20 and 90 metres, occasionally as deep as 115 metres.
Given its genuine deep-water origin, this species does best under subdued, low lighting with plenty of dark overhangs and narrow passageways to feel secure. It's considered reef safe with caution — it may nip at soft and stony corals, sessile invertebrates, and clam mantles, so a spacious, well-fed setup genuinely reduces this risk. It's also genuinely sensitive to copper-based medications, and can be belligerent toward other pygmy angelfish, anthias, butterflyfish, and fairy wrasses, so thoughtful tank mate selection matters. Encouragingly, this species has been successfully captive-bred, offering a genuinely hardier alternative to wild-caught stock.
