📋 The Japanese Pygmy Angelfish, also known as the Japanese Angelfish or Interruptus Angel, is a spectacular dwarf angelfish with an orange body scattered in neon blue speckles that grow larger and shift toward purple near the tail, and a bright yellow caudal fin.
It's found concentrated around southern and central Japan, with smaller populations near Midway and Kure in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands, rarely collected, making it one of the more prized and expensive dwarf angelfish in the hobby. This species naturally comes from cooler waters than a typical tropical reef, and we acclimate every specimen gradually to standard reef temperatures before it ships, so every Japanese Pygmy Angelfish we ship is feeding well and ready for a typical tropical system.
It can be shy when first introduced, taking time to settle before becoming confidently territorial, so it's best added as the very last fish to an already well-established tank. It's reef safe with caution, generally leaving soft corals and LPS alone, though as with all Centropyge, individual behaviour can vary. It reaches up to 19cm, one of the largest Centropyge species, so plan on at least 280L.
