🐠 Rusty Angelfish (Centropyge ferrugata)

Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Dwarf Angelfish • Rusty Orange Body With Black Speckling & Blue Fin Edging • Genuine Japanese Origin • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Rusty Angelfish , also known as the Rusty Dwarf Angelfish, has a genuinely warm rusty-orange-to-amber body decorated with irregular black speckling that fades toward the tail, with the dorsal and anal fins rimmed in bright sapphire blue. It's genuinely often confused with the more common Coral Beauty Angelfish, but lacks the rich purple-blue tones that species shows.

Native to the Western Pacific, from southern Japan (including the Ryukyu and Ogasawara Islands) to Taiwan and the Philippines, this species inhabits rocky reefs and rubble areas with prolific algae growth, at depths from 6 to 30 metres.

We want to be genuinely upfront: this species is considered reef safe with caution, and will nip at soft and stony coral polyps, sessile invertebrates, and clam mantles, particularly if underfed — a consistent, varied diet genuinely reduces this risk. It's genuinely semi-aggressive and should not be housed with other Centropyge species, though it's generally tolerant of unrelated fish. Like all Centropyge angelfish, all individuals are born female, with the dominant fish in a group transforming into a male.
