🐠 Yellowfin Pygmy Angelfish (Centropyge flavipectoralis)
Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Dwarf Angelfish • Dark Brown Body With Metallic Blue Stripes & Yellow Pectoral Fins • Genuine "Moonbeam" Angelfish • Intermediate Marine Fish
📋 The Yellowfin Pygmy Angelfish , also known as the Moonbeam Angelfish, has a genuinely striking, understated appearance — a dark brown-to-near-black body marked with fine metallic blue vertical stripes, set off by genuinely vivid yellow pectoral fins that appear like moonbeams glowing against a midnight sky as the fish swims, giving the species its evocative common name.
Native to the Western Indian Ocean, known from Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and the Andaman Sea, this species inhabits shallow reef-associated rubble zones with sparse coral growth, typically at depths of 3 to 20 metres, and is genuinely often seen in small groups over semi-open substrate.
This is a genuinely hardy fish once established, and its dark base colour means its full beauty is best appreciated under good lighting, similar to other "dusky" Centropyge species. We want to be honest on reef safety: it's considered reef safe with caution, as relatively little is genuinely documented about its specific feeding habits on natural coral. It's also genuinely territorial and aggressive toward other dwarf angelfish, and should not be housed with other Centropyge species or particularly passive tank mates.
