We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. This species is genuinely valued for eating Aiptasia and majano anemones, but once these pests are gone, it will often turn its attention to soft and stony corals if not kept genuinely well fed with a varied diet. Some hobbyists move it to a fish-only tank once its pest-control job is done. It's also genuinely a poor swimmer, so please ensure water flow is gentle and cover any powerheads or overflows.
 
📋 The Bristletail Filefish , also known as the Aiptasia-Eating Filefish, Matted Filefish, or Matted Leatherjacket, has a genuinely mottled body in shades of green, brown, and tan, dotted with white and dark splotches. Its name genuinely comes from a distinctive patch of bristles on the tail base, more clearly visible in adult males, making this one of the easier filefish species to sex.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea, Maldives, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia, this species is genuinely known for its ability to mimic the colouration and patterns of other fish and invertebrates for camouflage.
We want to be honest: a very similar species, the Radial Filefish (Acreichthys radiatus), is genuinely sometimes confused with this one, and not all specimens sold as Bristletail Filefish are guaranteed Aiptasia eaters. It's genuinely a shy, slow-moving, generally peaceful fish, and readily accepts a wide variety of prepared foods.
