🐠 Radial Filefish (Acreichthys radiatus)

Marine Reef-Safe-With-Caution Nano Filefish • Silvery Body With Dark Radiating Striations & Constantly Rotating Eyes • Genuine Documented Xenia Mimicry • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Radial Filefish, also known as the Radial Leatherjacket, has a genuinely striking silvery-white body covered in dark brown-to-greenish radiating striations, with large, constantly rotating eyes that actively track food, predators, and even its keeper outside the tank.

Native to the Western Pacific, from northern Australia to the Ryukyu Islands and Indonesia through to New Caledonia, this species inhabits reef environments among soft coral colonies.

A genuinely remarkable natural adaptation defines this species: it closely mimics the colour and pattern of pulsing Xenia coral, using it as a protective home in a real relationship reminiscent of clownfish and anemones, and can genuinely shift its colouration and pattern within seconds depending on mood and environment. We also want to share a genuinely charming documented behaviour: juveniles are known to bite onto the sides of the tank or nearby algae to stabilise themselves while sleeping at night. We want to be genuinely upfront that sources differ on reef safety — some captive-breeding programs report this species rarely bothers corals, while other sources are more cautious, noting filefish in general may pick at benthic invertebrates or corals. Given this, we'd recommend cautious observation in a reef setting. This species remains genuinely small, reaching only around 7-8cm, and is peaceful, shy, and best kept with other calm tank mates.
