We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. This species genuinely grows very large — up to 60cm (24") — and needs a genuinely spacious tank with a thick, established sand bed and plenty of open swimming room. Please plan for its full adult size from the outset.
 
📋 The Dash-and-Dot Goatfish , also known as the Dotdash Goatfish, has a genuinely distinctive cream-white body marked with a bold black stripe and a yellow dorsal section, with a notable dark spot at the base of the tail — the genuine combination of "dash" and "dot" giving the species its common name.
Native to a genuinely vast range across the Indo-Pacific, from the Gulf of Aden and East Africa to Micronesia, the Marquesas Islands, and southern Japan to Australia, this species inhabits sandy lagoons and reef flats.
A genuinely characteristic goatfish behaviour: this species uses its twin chin barbels to feel around in the sand, searching for buried crustaceans and polychaete worms. It's genuinely active by day and rests dormant on the seafloor at night. It's considered reef safe with caution — it won't harm corals, but will genuinely consume small crustaceans and worms, including those that are part of a typical clean-up crew.
