📋 The Two Banded Goatfish, also known as the Doublebar Goatfish, has a distinctive silver-white body with yellow-edged scales, marked by two bold vertical black bars. "Two Banded Goatfish" is a trade name that covers a small group of near-identical species from across the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
This one comes from the Indian Ocean, from Oman and East Africa to South Africa and east to Christmas Island and Java, living on seaward reefs at roughly 12 to 20 metres and searching the sand for food with its chin barbels. It's shy, docile, and best with calm tankmates. Every Two Banded Goatfish we ship is feeding well.
It isn't reef safe: it roots through the substrate and eats small crustaceans and worms, so anchor your rockwork on the tank base before adding sand. It does best with three to five small meals a day, and in a large, mature tank with plenty of open sand (we recommend at least 680L), where it can forage naturally for a lifetime.
