We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. This species has venomous spines along its dorsal, anal, and pelvic fins, capable of delivering a genuinely severe, extremely painful sting. Never handle this species with bare hands, and always use a container rather than a net for any transfers. Its exceptional camouflage also means it's genuinely easy to accidentally touch while working in the tank — please always look carefully before placing your hands near rockwork or substrate.
 
📋 The Humpbacked Scorpionfish, also known as the False Stonefish, has a genuinely mottled reddish-brown to grey body with irregular blotches, a distinctly humped back, and a large upturned mouth, all combining to create remarkable camouflage that makes it genuinely near-indistinguishable from a rock or piece of coral rubble.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, this species is a true master ambush predator, remaining perfectly motionless for extended periods while waiting for unsuspecting prey to wander within striking range, then engulfing it in a matter of milliseconds. If it feels genuinely threatened, it may flash its bright orange pectoral fins as a warning display before resorting to its venomous defence.
We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, and will genuinely eat any fish or crustacean small enough to fit in its mouth. It should be the only scorpionfish in the tank, and given its patient, slow-metabolism nature, feeding only needs to occur every few days.
