📋 The Yellowfin Scorpionfish, also known as the Bandtail Scorpionfish, has a humpbacked body profile with mottled colouring that shifts to match its surroundings, a distinctive yellow tinge to the gill cover, a dark red band across the tail, and tubercles along the outer edge of the eye. It's native to the Indo-West Pacific, where it inhabits the continental shelf at depths of up to 40 metres, and it's a true demersal predator.
It's a supremely camouflaged, stationary ambush predator, remaining motionless while waiting for prey to wander close. It's reef safe with caution: it won't harm corals, but it will eat small fish and crustaceans that fit in its mouth. Every Yellowfin Scorpionfish we ship is feeding well, sometimes on live foods first. Its scientific name, neglecta, is Latin for "overlooked."
Like all scorpionfish, it carries venomous spines that can deliver a painful sting, with effects ranging from intense pain and inflammation to nausea and vomiting. Please take real care whenever your hands are near this fish, and use a rigid container and not a net. It suits experienced aquarists.
