We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. The dorsal, pelvic, and anal fin spines of this species are genuinely venomous, causing a reaction similar to a severe bee sting, with the severity varying by individual. If stung, remove any broken spines and immerse the affected area in the hottest water you can tolerate (not scalding) for around 30 minutes, followed by medical attention. Please exercise real caution during all tank maintenance and feeding. We also want to note that lionfish, including this species, are genuinely subject to possession restrictions in some regions, such as Florida, given concerns over invasive lionfish populations — please check your local regulations before purchasing.
 
📋 The Radiata Lionfish, also known as the Clearfin Lionfish or Tailbar Lionfish, has a genuinely distinctive red, white, and black vertically striped body, with large, fan-like pectoral fins and tall, quill-like dorsal spines. It's genuinely the only species in its genus with completely unmarked pectoral fin membranes, and can be identified by a pair of horizontal white stripes on the base of the tail.
Native to the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, and Western Pacific, this species inhabits reef caves and crevices, and is naturally nocturnal.
This is a genuinely one of the more sought-after lionfish, given it's less commonly available in the trade than other species. We want to be honest that it's genuinely shy when newly introduced, often hiding until it settles in, and new specimens frequently need live saltwater feeder shrimp to begin eating. It's considered reef safe with caution — it won't harm coral tissue, but will genuinely eat invertebrates and any fish small enough to fit in its mouth, so tank mates should be similarly sized or larger.
