📋 The Linear Blenny (Ecsenius lineatus), also known as the Lined Blenny, has a distinctive bold dark stripe running from eye to tail over a lighter, white-to-tan body, with a pair of slender cirri above the eyes.
Native to shallow coastal and outer reef crests across the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to the Philippines and Fiji, this species spends its day perched on live rock, grazing algae and darting into crevices when startled.
Considered reef safe with caution, this species may nip at SPS corals like Acropora and Montipora, particularly in tanks with small, immature colonies, so caution is genuinely warranted in SPS-dominant systems. It's also worth knowing that this species genuinely requires a diet high in vegetable matter — if aquarium algae isn't sufficient, it needs consistent supplementation with algae-based foods, or it will genuinely waste away over time. It's a genuinely peaceful species that does best with equally calm tank mates, since even moderately aggressive fish can intimidate it away from food.
