📋 The Sleeper Blue Dot Goby (Valenciennea sexguttata), also known as the Sixspot Goby, is a pale, elongated marine fish prized for its calm temperament and genuinely useful habit of sifting sand throughout the day in search of food, helping keep the substrate aerated and free of detritus.
Native to shallow sandy lagoons and reef flats across the Indo-Pacific, Sleeper Blue Dot Gobies are named for the small cluster of blue-flecked spots near the gill area, set against a pale cream to white body that helps them blend into their sandy natural habitat.
Naturally unhurried and peaceful, Sleeper Blue Dot Gobies spend much of the day mouthing sand, sifting it for edible morsels before expelling it through their gills — a behaviour that makes them a genuinely functional addition to a reef tank rather than a purely decorative one. They are, however, notorious jumpers and require a tightly sealed aquarium.
With stable water conditions and a sand bed to forage in, they thrive as a Beneficial Substrate-Cleaning Reef Display Fish.
