📋 The Yasha Shrimp Goby, also known as the Yasha Goby, has an unparalleled personality for its tiny size, with a pearly-white body marked by vibrant, broken orange-to-red horizontal stripes, yellow fins, and a striking, pronounced, curved white dorsal fin.
It comes from the deeper rubble slopes of the Western Pacific, from Japan south through the Philippines, living at depths of 15 to 60 metres, emerging from its burrow to hover in the water column and pick off passing zooplankton. Every Yasha Shrimp Goby we ship is feeding well.
This species forms a real documented partnership specifically with the Candy Cane Pistol Shrimp (Alpheus randalli), in which the shrimp maintains the shared burrow while the goby stands watch, alerting its nearly blind partner to potential threats. This is one of the most popular gobies in the entire hobby, hardy and easy-care, with a shy but hovering, characterful presence. It's a known jumper, so a secure lid is essential, and it can be kept in pairs, though individuals of the same sex, particularly two males in a smaller tank, will fight. It's fully reef safe, and ignores corals, clams, and most ornamental invertebrates. It reaches up to 6.5cm, so a 40L tank suits it well.
