🐠 Wheeler's Shrimp Goby (Amblyeleotris wheeleri)
Marine Reef-Safe Nano Sand-Dwelling Goby • White "Candy Cane" Body With Thick Orange-Red Bands & Tiny Blue Spots • Genuine Documented Pistol Shrimp Partnership • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish
📋 The Wheeler's Shrimp Goby, also known as Wheeler's Goby, Wheeler's Prawn Goby, or the Gorgeous Prawn-Goby, has a genuinely striking, "candy cane" style white body marked with thick vertical orange-red bands and tiny blue spots, with the dorsal fin further decorated in red and blue dots.
Native to the Indo-Pacific, this species inhabits sandy areas near coral reefs, and we want to share a genuinely interesting fact: it was first formally discovered and described in Indonesia in 1982 by Hoese and Randall.
This species genuinely forms a real documented symbiotic partnership with pistol shrimp, with a genuine preference for pairing with Alpheus ochrostriatus, though it's also documented pairing with Alpheus bellulus or Alpheus randalli in captivity — the shrimp maintains the shared burrow while the goby stands watch and signals danger. We want to be honest that this species genuinely needs enough space to dig a burrow at least 3cm longer than its own body, and can become stressed if other burrowing animals disturb an insufficiently spacious tank. This is a genuinely peaceful, hardy, and disease-resistant species, doing well in a small group or pair if introduced simultaneously. It's fully reef safe, and genuinely known to spawn successfully in a home aquarium under the right conditions.
