📋 Wheeler's Shrimp Goby, also known as Wheeler's Goby, Wheeler's Prawn Goby, or the Gorgeous Prawn-Goby, has a striking, "candy cane" style white body marked with thick vertical orange-red bands and tiny blue spots, with the dorsal fin further decorated in red and blue dots.
It comes from the Indo-Pacific, inhabiting sandy areas near coral reefs. An interesting fact: it was first formally discovered and described in Indonesia in 1982 by Hoese and Randall. Every Wheeler's Shrimp Goby we ship is feeding well.
This species forms a real documented symbiotic partnership with pistol shrimp, with a preference for pairing with Alpheus ochrostriatus, though it's also documented pairing with Alpheus bellulus or Alpheus randalli in captivity; the shrimp maintains the shared burrow while the goby stands watch and signals danger. This species needs enough space to dig a burrow at least 3cm longer than its own body, and can become stressed if other burrowing animals disturb an insufficiently spacious tank. This is a peaceful, hardy, and disease-resistant species, doing well in a small group or pair if introduced simultaneously. It's fully reef safe, and known to spawn successfully in a home aquarium under the right conditions. It reaches up to 7.6cm, so a 40L tank suits it well.
