📋 A note on naming: despite "Watchman" in its name, the Tiger Watchman Goby (also known as the Tiger Sleeper Goby, Ward's Tiger, or Ward's Sleeper) is a sleeper goby, and unlike the burrow-sharing Cryptocentrus watchman gobies, its defining behaviour is sand-sifting rather than a specific pistol shrimp partnership.
The Tiger Watchman Goby has an eye-catching white body marked with thick brown bands, a distinct black eyespot on the first dorsal fin, and a vivid electric-blue stripe beneath each eye. It comes from the Indo-Pacific, including Sri Lanka and Indonesia, found sifting through sandy substrates on the reef floor. Every Tiger Watchman Goby we ship is feeding well.
This species is a skilled sand sifter, taking mouthfuls of sand, filtering out edible particles, and releasing the sifted sand, which helps keep the substrate clean and well aerated. It's a peaceful species toward other fish, rarely showing aggression, though it can become territorial toward its own kind, fighting unless kept as a confirmed mated pair. It's fully reef safe, and requires a live sand substrate to display its natural sifting behaviour, alongside an established, mature tank with a healthy microfauna population to sustain its feeding. It reaches up to 13cm, so a 115L tank suits it well.
