🐟 Tancho Koi (Cyprinus rubrofuscus)
A Single Crimson Crown on a Snow-White Body • A Living Symbol of Japan • One of the Most Treasured Koi of All
📋 The Tancho Koi carries a pure snow-white body with a single, perfectly placed crimson-red spot on its head, like a crown. Named after Japan's sacred red-crowned Tancho crane and echoing the Japanese flag, it's one of the most treasured and admired koi, a symbol of good fortune and grace.
It's a captive-bred ornamental koi, developed in Japan from the Amur carp. Every Tancho Koi we ship is feeding well.
This is a peaceful, sociable pond fish that glides gracefully through the water, its red crown standing out beautifully against the white, and it quickly learns to come to the surface to feed from your hand. It's long-lived, hardy and grows into a true pond centrepiece, reaching up to 90cm, so a pond of 4,000L or more suits it well.
