This is a large, genuinely aggressive predator that will eat any fish or crustacean small enough to fit in its mouth, and it produces genuinely significant waste, requiring strong filtration and excellent water quality. It's best kept as the only grouper in the tank, alongside other robust, similarly assertive species such as lionfish or moray eels — never with small or peaceful tank mates.
 
📋 The Argus Grouper , also known as the Peacock Grouper, Peacock Hind, or Blue-Spotted Grouper, has a genuinely striking dark brown-to-black body covered in hundreds of small, iridescent blue spots, with larger specimens sometimes developing pale vertical bars across the rear half. The species name genuinely references Argus, the hundred-eyed giant of Greek mythology, a nod to its densely spotted pattern.
Native to a genuinely vast range across the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa to French Polynesia and the Pitcairn Islands, this species typically rests on coral heads and rocky perches, retreating into cover when startled, and hunts small fish and crustaceans as an ambush predator.
