🐠 Bluegill Longfin Grouper (Plesiops corallicola)

Marine Not-Reef-Safe Predatory Fish • Grey-Brown Body With Blue Spots & Long Flowing Fins • Genuinely Uncommon in the Trade • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Bluegill Longfin Grouper , also known as the Spotgill Longfin Grouper, has a genuinely unusual, almost prehistoric appearance — a rounded head, large eyes, and long, flowing fins, over an overall grey-to-dark-brown body decorated with small blue spots, a blue stripe on the dorsal fin, and a distinctive blue ocellus near the gill cover.

Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, this species is genuinely uncommon in the aquarium trade, and feeds primarily on small fish and crustaceans in the wild.

This species genuinely appreciates low-light environments with a couple of solidly constructed caves, and we want to be honest that it's a genuine digger, so please build rockwork securely before adding substrate. It can genuinely appear shy on introduction, but settles in quickly to become a personable, disease-resistant addition to a large fish-only setup. We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, and only one specimen should be kept per tank.
