Please ensure all rockwork and coral placements are genuinely secure before adding this species, and plan for its real eventual adult size, which can reach up to 18 inches (roughly 46cm).
 
📋 The Harlequin Grouper , also known as the Polleni Grouper, Harlequin Hind, or Harlequin Rockcod, has a genuinely striking body — typically green-to-yellow, though colouration can vary toward cream or pale yellow with large irregular dark spots, blue edging along the fins, and yellow-tipped dorsal and anal fins.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific and Western Indian Ocean, including areas around Madagascar, the Comoros, and East Africa, this species inhabits coral reefs and rocky areas, using the structure both for shelter from larger predators and to ambush prey.
This is a genuinely rare, hardy species that adapts well to aquarium life once properly housed. It's shy at first, but can genuinely become territorial over time, defending its chosen den from other fish, though tank mates are usually otherwise ignored unless they compete for its space or can be eaten. We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, and will genuinely eat any fish or invertebrate that fits in its mouth, so it's best suited to a large fish-only or FOWLR aquarium with other robust species.
