🐠 Bella Sleeper Goby (Valenciennea bella)

Marine Reef-Safe Sand-Sifting Goby • Maroon-Pink Body With Sapphire Face Stripes • Genuine Rarest Valenciennea Species • Intermediate Marine Fish

📋 The Bella Sleeper Goby , also known simply as the Bella Goby, has a genuinely striking maroon-pink to orange body, with a golden-yellow head marked by a pair of sapphire-blue stripes below the eyes. Adults genuinely develop a distinctive black patch under the chin as they mature.

Native to a genuinely narrow range around the sandy reef bottoms of Japan, this species is genuinely the rarest and most sought-after member of the Valenciennea genus in the aquarium trade, which naturally makes its availability inconsistent.

A genuinely fascinating detail worth correcting a common misconception: this species doesn't simply eat detritus — it's a true carnivorous sand-sifter, repeatedly gulping mouthfuls of substrate and filtering out small crustaceans and worms through its gills before expelling clean sand. The genus is genuinely named after Achille Valenciennes, a 19th-century French zoologist. In the wild, these gobies genuinely mate for life wherever possible.

It's fully reef safe and a genuinely valuable substrate cleaner, but we want to be honest: it should not be housed with other Valenciennea species, and it's genuinely sensitive to ammonia and nitrite, so it should only be added to a well-established, biologically mature tank with a healthy sand bed. It's also genuinely a capable jumper, so a secure lid matters.
