📋 The Brown Scopas Tang, also known simply as the Scopas Tang or Twotone Tang, has a golden-yellow head that gradually darkens through shades of brown toward the tail, with fine, intricate light-blue markings across the body.
It ranges across a vast stretch of the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to Japan, the Pitcairn Islands, and Australia, and it's known for highly variable colouration: some individuals appear almost entirely yellow, others nearly solid black, and rare colour morphs including koi, albino, and hybrid patterns exist and are highly sought after by collectors. Every Brown Scopas Tang we ship is feeding well.
This species will naturally darken with age, particularly in tanks with dimmer lighting and darker décor, which is completely normal and not a sign of poor health. It's fully reef safe and a constant, excellent algae grazer. It can be aggressive toward other tangs, especially other Zebrasoma species, so it's best kept as the only tang of its kind, and we recommend caution when combining it with species like the Purple Tang. It reaches up to 30cm, so plan on at least 470L.
