🐠 Blue Spotted Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus pavoninoides)

Marine Reef-Safe Symbiotic Goby • Genuine Pistol Shrimp Partnership • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Blue Spotted Watchman Goby , also known as the Peacock Watchman Goby, has a genuinely eye-catching body decorated with vivid blue spots.

Native to a genuinely wide range across the western central Pacific, this species inhabits shallow coastal waters with sandy substrates and rocky outcrops, forming small colonies at depths of roughly 1 to 15 metres.

A genuinely fascinating natural partnership defines this species: in the wild, it forms a symbiotic relationship with burrowing pistol shrimp, sharing an intricate burrow the shrimp constructs and maintains, while the goby stands watch outside the entrance, signalling danger with a flick of its tail. This species primarily feeds on prey suspended in the water column, but will also pick food directly off the substrate.

It's fully reef safe and generally peaceful, though we want to be honest that it can become territorial toward other gobies, blennies, or dartfish, particularly in smaller tanks. It's also genuinely a known jumper, so a secure, tight-fitting lid matters.
