🐠 Decorated Goby (Istigobius decoratus)

Marine Reef-Safe Sand-Sifting Goby • Mottled Honeycomb-Patterned Body • Genuine Active Substrate Dweller • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Decorated Goby has a genuinely intricate, mottled body — brownish on the upper half, grading to white below, with a honeycomb-like pattern of dark scale margins and a midlateral row of double dark spots.

Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-West Pacific, from the Persian Gulf and Red Sea to Samoa, north to Taiwan, and south to Lord Howe Island, this species inhabits sandy bottoms and rubble areas near coral reefs.

This is a genuinely active, ornate substrate-dwelling goby that roams the sand searching for food, and can even swim up into the water column to feed. It's fully reef safe and generally peaceful, though we want to be honest that it can occasionally nip at corals, and is best housed singly and away from aggressive tank mates like groupers, dottybacks, or triggerfish. It's also genuinely a capable jumper, so a secure lid matters.
