📋 The Green Clown Goby, also known as the Earspot Coral Goby, has a stocky little body with a comparatively large head, in a pale green to greenish-tan colour, marked with orange vertical stripes and dots on the face.
It comes from a wide range across the Indo-Pacific, living among the branches of Acropora and other coral colonies on the reef. Every Green Clown Goby we ship is feeding well.
A fascinating defence mechanism protects this species: it secretes a toxic, protective mucus across its skin, meaning most predators know to leave it alone, so it rarely needs to fight to defend itself. It's fully reef safe, and social, forming loose groups in the wild that can be replicated in a larger tank if introduced simultaneously. Pairs will sometimes clear a small patch of coral tissue to create a nesting site for eggs, a minor, mostly cosmetic effect on an otherwise healthy, well-established coral colony. This species is a protandrous hermaphrodite, beginning life as male with the ability to transition to female. It reaches up to 5cm, so a 40L tank suits it well.
