📋 The Long Finned Sleeper Goby, also known as the Striped Sleeper Goby or Teardrop Goby, has an attractive torpedo-shaped, pearly white body marked with horizontal black, orange, and neon green dashes and dots running its length, including across the head.
It comes from a wide range across the Indo-Pacific, inhabiting rubble zones and sandy lagoon reefs, spending nearly all its time sifting mouthfuls of sand through its gills to filter out small crustaceans and worms. Every Long Finned Sleeper Goby we ship is feeding well, and we recommend it only for a mature, biologically established tank with a sand bed rich in natural microfauna, since this species relies heavily on that food source.
This is a valuable natural sand-bed cleaner, helping to aerate the substrate and manage nuisance cyanobacteria, though in doing so, it may leave small mounds of substrate throughout the tank. It's shy when first introduced, becoming bolder over time, and can be territorial toward its own kind unless a confirmed pair. It's considered reef safe with caution; it won't harm corals, but will eat bristleworms and other desirable infaunal invertebrates in live sand. It's also a jumper, so a secure, tight-fitting lid matters. It reaches up to 18cm, so a 210L tank suits it well.
